Matific Galaxy Review

Matific Galaxy is the new fun math game in our house. Matific Galaxy is a  game based math program for grades K-6. This is an online subscription based math game/program. It can be played on a computer or by using the app on an Ipad I phone or Android device. You can subscribe in one of two ways. By grade level which is what we did or you can get all the grade levels K-6. By grade level is $19.99 all the grade levels are $39.99. This is a per child pricing but they do offer a discount for additional children. It offers over 1,000 activities and is a learn at your own pace program. The lessons and activities are based on educational curriculum that many school systems use.


We are using the 6th grade level it covers 46 different skills your child should know in 6th grade.  Division, negative numbers, ratios, data analysis, fractions, coordinate planes, volume and percents are just a few of the topics covered in this level. You subscribe online and create your log in and your child's log in etc. You can then use the program through the web browser or you can choose to download the app.  I downloaded the 6th grade app on my iPhone. We could not get it to download on our Ipad 2 it told us the soft where was to old. It downloads like any other app and you enter your log in information into the app and away you go.

My 6th grader thinks this is the best math game ever. She had been playing it daily for weeks now and is showing no signs of boredom what so ever. If you take a look at the first screen shot it has what she calls worlds. That she can choose from. Each one has different games that she can do. There are only so many worlds unlocked the more you play the more worlds you can unlock.

 The next one down is a little pixel guy that she is earning pixels to fill him in and rescue him.









This is one of the math challenges it has her complete. In this one she has to find the missing vertex. If you get it wrong you get another try.




So far all the games she has played are in line with thing she is beginning to learn for 6th grade. She voluntarily spends quite a bit of time on Matific Galaxy. I am excited that screen time is learning time and I don't have to fuss to get her to practice math.

From the parent/teacher end of things you can get some really nice reports that tell you how your child is scoring in each topic. Did not see a print button but I just do a screen shot and print when I need something for records. You can also view your child's certificates which is handy. I do sort of wish I could select which topics I want her to work on that way I could customize it for what we are currently working on in math, or so she can get some extra practice on something she is having trouble with. Over all I think this is a great supplement to any math program. If you have a kid that loves screen time this is probably something they will enjoy.

SimplyFun Archery Dice Review

Game NIGHT !!!! That's Right Its FAMILY GAME NIGHT and we have a new game, this one is courtesy of SimplyFun and I’m reviewing Archery Dice, one of four of SimplyFun new releases. We are honored that we get to be some of the first to try it out. This game is geared for ages 7 and up. 

In this game you Stack your dice, aim and FLICK! If you hit the bull's-eye you immediately get to bank a target, You get to knock over your opponents stack of dice or even steal their targets. At the end of the round the player that has the most dice claims the target. You have to try to keep a claimed target for an entire round and bank it. The first one to bank four targets wins the game.

The Game comes with 16 targets, 12 Dice three of each color, 4 wood disk, 1 rule book.
This game got caught in the storm and we delayed getting to us for 4 days. When it finally arrived the girls practically tackled the UPS guy trying to get it from him. They tore it open and wanted to play right away.  We have had quite a few game nights with the new Archery Dice game.

The Directions are fairly simple to understand for an adult. I had to explain how to play to the girls a couple of times before they got all the rules of playing. But we were quickly on our way to flicking dice, and stealing targets.

This is what is in the box minus the direction sheet, because I forgot to put it in the picture. The game is well made, the targets are sturdy feeling and the colors are nice. So far they have held up nicely, and I think they will last a long time. The small colored disk are made of wood. I would be careful if you have small kids as the dice and small disk could be a choking hazard.

The main idea of the game is to shoot your dice at the round targets and get them to land on top. The person with the highest number die on the target at the end of the round gets the target. They then put it under the stack of dice that they are shooting. At the end of the next round if someone has not shot a dice at that target and stolen it you get to bank the target. First one to bank 4 targets wins.

Sounds easy right! WRONG at least for me. I got beat by an 8 year old twice in a row.When I could hit the target with the dice they always bounced off. Apparently Hotrod girl has better hand eye coordination than I do. She could usually land the dice on the target. She even had the ability to knock my dice off the target. The more you play the better you get at landing the dice on the target the first flick.

Archery Dice is a 2-4 player game. I think the more people you have the better the game is to play.Me and the girls play this quite often when the cousins come over. Even my little 4 year old niece gets a kick out of it. We have had so much fun with Archery Dice that we cant wait to see what SimplyFun comes up with Next. Speed

I have been trying to teach the Hotrod Princess how to skip count for a couple months now. This seems to be something that she is having a hard time understanding. I have been looking for different ways to help her get the hang of skip counting and I have finally found a fun game that seems to work. Its called "SPEED". its made by highhill educational supplies and you can find it on amazon for about $18.99. You can click HEAR to find it.  "Speed" is  a fun card game that teaches kids to multiply and how to multiply faster. It even helps teach skip counting. Once kids are familiar with the numbers in a game, multiplication gets easier. The game consist of eight decks of cards 2's - 9's in which kids learn skip counting. Its a two player game where players play against each other to see who can get rid of all of their cards first. "Speed" is a great hands on multisensory game that is short and quick. Its perfect for kids that have short attention spans. The repetition of the game helps kids with memorization. Its great for all learning styles.

We have been playing "Speed" for a few weeks now and I can already tell that it is helping the Hotrod princess with her skip counting. We are still working with the 2's right now. I went over the directions a couple times to be sure I understood how to play the game and what the rules were. I explained it to the Hotrod princess and then showed her what we had to do. She picked up how to play the game very quickly.  Over the last few weeks she has gotten faster at playing "speed".  She now makes less mistakes when skip counting by 2's. I can only see things improving from hear as we advance through the game. I think my skip counting is even getting better. I have noticed that I am getting faster at figuring out what cards I can play next.  We have so much fun playing "SPEED" that she often chooses "Speed" over many of our other games. Its a very fast game so we can usually squeeze in a game or two while we are waiting for it to be time to go some place. It has become a great rainy day activity that we really enjoy . I cant wait for Snoopy to start skip counting so they can play together. She is already sitting with us when we play.

I wanted to see how my sisters son who is autistic would like the game. They came up this weekend and we played a few rounds. He did very well with it and seemed to enjoy playing the game with us. It was easy for him to understand how to play and I think it will help him get better with his multiplying skills. He learns best with hands on activities and "SPEED is very hands on. It's a fast game so his hands are constantly moving. This is very good for his need to fidget,  it keeps him moving and doing quickly which also helps with concentrate.
